Excerpt from the President's Acceptance Speech on December 8, 2008
Engr. Segismundo F. Exaltacion, Jr. (Term: 2009-2010)
The Honorable Vice governor of Cebu, Gregorio G. Sanchez Jr., Rev. Fr. Anthony Morillo, OAR University President, Members of the recollect community, members of the University administration and faculty, former Presidents and Officers of the Association, former Awardees present tonight, fellow Officers and members of the Board, colleagues, friends and guests, Good evening. First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone for making this day special and for sharing your precious time to be with us tonight and to be with your fellow alumni.
I am deeply honored for having been elected and chosen as President of the association and lead this organization for the next 2 years. With this, I would like to thank my colleagues in the Board for the trust and confidence given. I also wish to thank my predecessors, my mentors, who are always at bay every time I seek for opinions and insights for me to assimilate with my own.

I believe in every Josenians capability and heart, and with our concerted and collective efforts, I am confident that we can make a great deal of continuous positive change in this Alumni organization. I know that all of us felt the need to contribute and give back as our way of filling the thin line between success and significance.

Personally, I felt the need to address the following questions, as any Alumni Association officer may ask, why am I here for? And the usual unspoken question of an Alumni member, what’s in it for me? What are the benefits of membership? These shall be our guide questions and will serve as our beacon in contemplating means and initiatives to improve our Alumni Services.

“Quality Christian Community-oriented Education”, inspires the Vision of the Association, an organization of graduates of USJR, imbued with the Josenian values and tradition of excellence, committed to the promotion of cooperation and unity, to become good Christians and productive citizens of the community and the world. I believe in our vision and as long as we can keep our vision clear, then passion and creativity will be there as well.

Allow me to inform you that sometime 1st quarter 2009, I look forward to conducting a strategic planning with the new set of officers and the new Board to re-visit our Vision and Mission and eventually create our specific objectives and directions for the next 2 years. We will endeavor to explore all possible means to create awareness for all Josenians far and wide to know about the plans and programs of our Alumni Association. I trust that we will do our best as a Team as we bank on the expertise and competencies of the new set of officers and Directors.

With high hopes, enthusiasm and for God’s greater glory, I humbly accept the Presidency. And as I appeal to all Josenians for support, let me end my message by saying, As Josenians, Let us not just strive to become the best in the world, but let us also strive to become the best for the world. Good evening and Merry Christmas to one and all.
